Scuba Diving For Non Swimmers
What typically happens
- You’ll receive a safety briefing and learn basic hand signals.
- You’ll be fitted with scuba equipment.
- The instructor will help you practice breathing in shallow water.
- Once you’re comfortable, the instructor will take you underwater, staying with you throughout the dive.
- The dive is conducted on a one-to-one basis, meaning one instructor accompanies one participant underwater.
Is it safe for non-swimmers?
Generally, yes—provided:
- You’re reasonably healthy and disclose any medical conditions.
- You follow the instructor’s directions.
- The dive is conducted by a certified dive center using proper safety procedures.
The instructor controls the pace and remains with you at all times. You don’t need to know how to float or swim because you’ll be wearing scuba equipment and guided throughout the experience.
Before booking
It’s worth confirming:
- The actual underwater time (often around 20–30 minutes, though this varies).
- Whether boat charges, underwater photography, or any other fees are included (the listing says GoPro photos/videos are complimentary).
- The minimum age and any medical restrictions (such as asthma, heart conditions, recent surgeries, or pregnancy).
